Welcome to my classroom! My name is Valerie Robinson, and I teach English 11 CP and English 10 CP here at Rancho, and I am the National Honor Society advisor. I have been teaching English since 1995, starting in Arizona before coming to California in 2014. I know that with the world still trying to return to normal after the Covid 19 crisis is going to be a little crazy, but I am here to help, learn, and grow with you as well get back on track. I want you to know I will do whatever necessary to help you succeed. I am very proud to be a Longhorn and hope to be at RBV for many, many years to come.
I have coached Academic Decathlon, taught EL classes, AP Literature, AVID, English 9-12, and grades 6-8 English throughout my career, so I have worked with a wide range of students over the years. I hold 2 Master's Degrees: 1 in Bi-lingual/Multicultural Education and 1 in School Counseling. I really, truly, do love what I do.
Teaching is a great part of my life, but I have a rich, fulfilling life outside of school as well. I have 2 daughters who are the lights of my life and consume a great deal of my time, as I love being with them. I am an animal lover with 1 dog, 4 cats, and 1 bird named Atticus (from To Kill A Mockingbird, one of my favorite novels) ... Yeah, I'm a little bit crazy there. I scuba dive, snorkel, hike, run and try to work out several times a week, love to read (Stephen King is my favorite author), love the outdoors (especially the beach), love music, consume scary amounts of ice cream and chocolate (that's why I work out!), have a sometimes sarcastic sense of humor (I apologizing in advance), and think that my children and students keep me young.
As this year progresses, I hope to learn much more about you. I promise this will be fun, we will laugh and smile, and that you will learn if you are willing. I can't wait to meet you!
